Fausto Melotti was born in Rovereto (TN) on June 8, 1901. He moved to Florence in 1915, will conclude their secondary education in 1918, he attended the School of Physics and Mathematics at Pisa, then graduated in 1924 from the Politecnico of Milan, in electrical engineering. His interests are directed towards the music and the visual arts. In Turin, he attended the studio of Pietro Canonica, a famous sculptor, the Brera Academy in Milan at the school of Adolfo Wildt, where he graduated in 1928.
It starts in those years the association of Melotti with Lucio Fontana and the initiation of independent research as a sculptor.
In 1932 held at the school of furniture crafted of a course in modern plastic Cantu, whose results were shown in 1934 at the gallery "II? Million" in Milan, a meeting of Milan and Como abstractionists.
