He was born in Amagasaki, near Osaka, in 1924, where he lives and works. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kyoto, where he graduated in 1948 in traditional Japanese painting.
Since 1949 has participated in numerous exhibitions with the group Shinsesaku-Kyokai.
In 1954 he started painting on the canvas with his feet slipping.
In 1955 became part of the Gutai Group, and continues to use the body as an expressive medium.
He died on 11 April 2008.
